Fascinating rediscovery of a study or preparation drawing executed by Frederic Lord Leighton’s for his famous painting Flaming June. The drawing has been found in a mansion which currently belongs to TV quizmaster Bamber Gascoigne (former host of the UK television quiz show University Challenge) and which he inherited from an aristocratic aunt, the late Duchess of Roxburghe.
He sold over 85million books worldwide in 37 languages, and in 2011 announced his diagnosis with posterior cortical atrophy, a rare variant of Alzheimer’s disease primarily affecting vision.
